Should you check keyword density for SEO?
Even though your primary focus should be on creating quality content that matches user intent, keyword density is also important. Overusing a particular keyword in your content can result in keyword stuffing-related penalties; this is a form of black-hat SEO. Ignoring this problem can even lead to full-on removal from the SERPs. This is why it’s essential to perform keyword density checks across the content on your site.
Keyword density formula
To put it plainly, keyword density is an SEO metric that helps you figure out how often keywords are used compared to the total number of words on the page.
Considering this definition, the formula for calculating keyword density is pretty straightforward:
Keyword Density = (total number of times a given keyword is used / total word count on the page) * 100
For instance, if a specific keyword appears 15 times on a webpage with a 500-word content piece, our Keyword Density Analyzer will conduct the following calculation:
(15 / 500) * 100 = 3%
What is a good keyword density?
Google has never explicitly stated an ideal keyword density to aim for, so you might encounter tons of opinions on acceptable values. But most SEO pros recommend aiming for a target keyword density of 1-2%.
Keep in mind that search engines like Google have significantly improved their ability to understand context and content relevance. So, if the Keyword Density Checker shows apercentage lower than 1%, don’t worry. After all, the primary goal of using keywords is to make the content more relevant to users’ requests, not to clutter it with repetitive words and phrases.
